What makes this file useful
- iso_date, us_date and eu_date all describe the same day — so if your converted us_date does not match iso_date, your parser picked the wrong locale.
- unix_ts corresponds exactly to datetime_utc, giving you a round-trip check for epoch conversion.
- weekday and quarter are pre-derived, so you can validate your own date-part extraction.
Use cases
- Test that your parser reads US vs EU dates correctly (and detect when it guesses wrong)
- Convert a Unix timestamp back to a date and check it against iso_date
- Derive weekday / quarter and compare with the columns provided
- Normalise five date columns to one canonical format

Frequently asked questions
Why include the same date five ways?
So you can test parsing and conversion with a built-in answer key. If your output disagrees across columns, you found a bug.
Which format should I standardise on?
ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD) for dates, or full ISO 8601 with a timezone for timestamps. It sorts correctly as text and is unambiguous.
Are the US and EU dates ever identical?
Only when the day is 12 or less and equals the month. Otherwise MM/DD and DD/MM differ, which is exactly the ambiguity you are testing.
