What makes this file useful
- customer_id is a clean primary key (CUST-0001 … CUST-0200) that the sample orders file references as a foreign key.
- Emails use the reserved example.com domain, so nothing will ever be delivered if a test accidentally sends mail.
- Names include non-ASCII characters (accents), which makes this a good file for testing UTF-8 handling.
Use cases
- Test a CRM / marketing-tool CSV import mapping
- Practise anonymizing names, emails and phone numbers
- Join against the orders sample on customer_id
- Segment customers and count by country or segment

Frequently asked questions
Are these real people?
No. Names, emails and phone numbers are randomly generated and use reserved test domains. No real contact is represented.
Can I import this into HubSpot / Salesforce / Mailchimp?
Yes — it is shaped like a typical contact export and is useful for testing field mapping before importing your own list.
Do the emails work?
They are syntactically valid but point at example.com, which never delivers mail. That is deliberate.
How do I join it to the orders file?
Match customers.customer_id to orders.customer_id — every order references a customer that exists here.
