What makes this file useful

  • total is pre-computed from quantity × unit_price, so you can validate your own aggregation logic against it.
  • Dates span roughly Jan–Jun 2026, which gives you at least six monthly buckets for trend work.
  • Every region and salesperson appears many times, so grouped counts are never based on a single row.

Use cases

  • Build a revenue-by-month pivot table or line chart
  • Practise GROUP BY region / salesperson aggregations in SQL
  • Test a "top products by revenue" dashboard widget
  • Try a running-total or month-over-month growth calculation

Frequently asked questions

Is this real sales data?

No. Every order, price and name is synthetic and generated for testing. It is safe to publish in tutorials or demos.

Can I use it commercially?

Yes. It is free for any use, including paid courses, QA pipelines and product demos.

How many rows does it have?

The file has 240 data rows plus a header row.

Does it join to the other sample files?

The salesperson names overlap conceptually with the employees sample, and you can treat region as a shared dimension, but there is no strict foreign key — use the orders + customers samples for join practice.
