What makes this file useful

  • cost is always a fraction of price, so margin math produces sensible positive numbers you can verify.
  • Some rows have stock = 0, which is the case you want when testing out-of-stock handling and filters.
  • name deliberately contains near-duplicates (e.g. "Laptop Stand Pro" vs "Laptop Stand") for fuzzy-matching practice.

Use cases

  • Compute gross margin as (price − cost) / price
  • Flag products with stock below a reorder threshold
  • Test a Shopify / WooCommerce product import
  • Rank categories by average rating or total inventory value

Frequently asked questions

Do the SKUs follow a real standard?

No. SKUs are random SKU-##### codes, unique within the file but not tied to any real product identifier system like GTIN or UPC.

Can I import this into Shopify?

It is not in Shopify's exact column format, but it is a good file for practising the mapping and transformation step before importing your own catalog.

Are prices realistic?

They are plausible for desk / peripheral products but randomly generated, not scraped from any store.
